The Day's Events

 

 

9.00 am – Delph Bands and guests form up at Millgate Car Park and on the stroke of 9.00 the band marches through the village playing the traditional ‘Hail Smiling Morn’ – they turn round at theWhite Lion crossroads and play a popular Street March, back home to the Band Club.

9.30 am – A short service is held at the Methodist Church on Gartside Street, (these services alternate between St Thomas’ and the Methodist) each year. All visitors are welcome to join us and enjoy the Whitsuntide hymns accompanied by players from the Delph Bands.

10.00 am – Procession of Witness begins with prayers and a hymn at Holland Close (far end of Gartside Street) and continues around the village, with traditional Whit Friday hymns at various points.

11.30 am – Procession returns to the village for a service in the Square. There will be a collection for Christian Aid during this service.

2.00 pm – Setting up for the contest begins and hopefully there will be Sports for the children on the school playing field

4.00 pm – The contest begins

12.00 pm – All playing is finished and the road is once again open for traffic

Results are announced dependant on the finishing time and number of bands entered, hopefully they will be released in time and announced outside the Methodist Hall and in the Band club
